Consulting Associate, Public Sector (Entry Level)

ERM is sicking a Consulting Associate, Public Sector, to contribute to a wide range of projects covering the full spectrum of ERM’s services that target improved environmental, sustainability and/or socio-economic public sector performance focused on Northern Canada with administrative focus in Ottawa, Ontario.

Consultants at ERM lead and contribute to successful consulting engagements, support marketing and business management, and actively contribute to the internal growth and development of our team, our systems and our culture. Collaborating closely with Senior Consultants, Consultants typically focus on a particular ERM advisory service area but can adapt to support other areas when needed – versatility and cross-fertilization across business lines is an important factor underlying ERM’s success.

Your responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

Consulting

• Contribute to successful completion of consulting engagements by creating background materials, conducting research and literature reviews, participating in data collection activities (such as interviews and surveys) and analyzing responses.
• Formatting reports and presentations that are client-facing, including creating compelling narratives to communicate sustainability insights.
• Assist with designing, planning, delivering and reporting on meetings, workshops and stakeholder engagement sessions in-person, virtual and hybrid.
• Support marketing and business development initiatives by conducting research on market trends and client needs, preparing marketing materials, coordinating the RFP search program and opportunity development, and supporting proposal development.
• Collaborate with senior consultants and project managers to develop a deeper understanding of the sustainable and community development context and project management.

Administration

• Support front desk reception responsibilities by promoting a professional and organized presence; greeting visitors and answering incoming calls, etc. 
• Maintain an orderly and clean appearance in the reception area, photocopy room, meeting rooms and kitchen, including purchasing office supplies.
• Distribute incoming / outgoing mail and courier services.
• Assist with organization of internal/external events, workshops, meetings (logistics, catering, etc.) for the Ottawa office.
• Schedule conference calls and/or web conference meetings for the Ottawa office.
• Lead office-specific health and safety initiatives and be an active member of OHS committee.
• Support travel arrangements; create expense reports, time sheets and other operational reports.
• Assist with tracking sustainability reporting metrics for the Ottawa office.
• Support internal corporate roles at the Ottawa office such as the Government of Canada Security Program, Social Committee, Health & Safety and other events as required.

Educational Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree required in a discipline related to natural resource management, sustainability or environmental science. Or equivalent experience. 
• Relevant work experience within the resource management, environmental, or sustainability space; experience working on projects in Canada’s North is an asset.
• Previous consulting experience is highly desirable.

• Excellent analytical and critical thinking capability, able to collect and synthesize large amounts of information and discern what is important.
• Ability to prioritize and manage multiple client/stakeholder deadlines simultaneously in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
• Ability to speak and write clearly and succinctly for different audiences.
• Proven record of effective time management and ability to meet deadlines.
• Professional conduct while adhering to the organization’s code of conduct.  
• Knowledge of natural resource management, Canada’s history and reconciliation with Indigenous peoples, context shaping sustainable and community development in Canada’s north, community engagement and/or resource development (through university education or work experience).
• Ability to obtain security clearance for our Government of Canada clients and to support ERM’s Security Program.
• Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office (SharePoint, OneDrive, Teams, Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint), and Adobe.
• Knowledge of Canada’s public sector and procurement processes and/or experience working with Indigenous governments and organizations is an asset.
• Bilingualism in French/English is an asset.
