Thales Canada is looking for a Docking and Engineering Specification Writer (DESW-E) to support its Non-Combatant In-Service Support Programs for the Royal Canadian Navy.
The Thales Docking and Engineering Specification Writer will work with the Thales LCMM & Engineering and Service Delivery Teams to provide project management and technical support to various Royal Canadian Navy’s Non-Combatant Platforms. This includes but not limited to the preparation of docking specifications and other technical support activities for the LCMM & Engineering Team.
Key Areas of Responsibility
Preparation, and review of docking specifications and docking facility work packages, technical proposals and scopes of work.
Applying lessons learned from previous dockings to support baseline documentation updates.
Defining guidelines for hull repair specifications.
Reviewing Engineering, Certification Management and other Processes and identify areas of improvement.
Prepare documented work scopes suitable for solicitation of quotations from external resources such as OEM’s, manufacturers, suppliers, repair and testing facilities, or specialist service providers.
Providing technical input into problems associated with equipment or system malfunction, including failure analysis and solution development.
3-year technical program diploma in a marine technical field, or Degree in Naval Architecture or Mechanical Engineering.
Minimum of five years maritime experience in Ship Repair, Ship Building or Ship Operations.
5+ years’ experience in project management of ship repair and engineering change projects.
Demonstrated experience with the planning, management and execution of ship dockings and dry dock refits.
Familiar with conducting weight and stability calculations and associated tools, and lightship surveys.
Previous experience with Royal Canadian Navy or Canadian Coast Guard.

Special Position Requirements
Predominantly office work but will be required to work in dockyards and onboard Naval ships.
Maybe required to undertake inspections in machinery spaces of Naval ships involving bending and twisting.
