Position Summary
The Integration Architect will complete architecture tasks such as needs analysis, development of logical and physical architecture descriptions, development of application data communications architectures, and options analysis. The Integration Architect will be responsible for defining the integration strategy, and for maintaining the repository of integration architecture artifacts in a formalized manner in alignment with internal Thales Canada Defence and Security practices. During the implementation phase, the Integration Architect will be “hands on”, leading a software development team and participating him or herself in the software implementation.
Key Areas of Responsibility
• Define solution and/or solution element candidate architectures to meet stakeholders’ expectations in compliance with standardization and reuse policies, technology roadmap, and business strategy, while accounting for trade-offs between stakeholders’ expectations, technical/technological risk, cost, and schedule;
• Produce architectural artefacts, and review the resulting lower level specifications;
• Develop and maintain inter-product communication protocols as necessitated by business requirements and processes;
• Conduct technical arbitration between various contributors (internal and/or external to Thales);
• Produce white papers, studies, analyses, and technical recommendations;
• Present architectural proposals to the customer group and guide technical discussions amongst stakeholders;
• Document and maintain an up-to-date architectural model;
• Maintain minutes for architectural discussions summarizing key discussion points and capturing actions for follow-up;
• Contribute to the long-term product/solution vision and strategy; and
• Develop/maintain currency in software system best practices, methodologies, initiatives, and advancements.
Minimum Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in software engineering, computer engineering, computer science, or equivalent education with relevant experience
• Experience developing, integrating, and testing enterprise systems: 5 years (within the last 10)
• Experience specifying, architecting, and designing enterprise systems: 5 years
• Of these, 2 years of experience using tools typically used for model development such as Enterprise Architect by Sparx Systems or other, similar tools
The candidate should possess experience with a few of the following skills:
Experience developing and implementing integration protocol definitions within distributed enterprises that employed managed messaging patterns (ESB, DDD, etc.)
Experience with application integration, including recommending and validating deployments, load balancing, developing performance metrics, etc.
Experience with architectures involving mixed on-premises / public cloud deployments
Experience in the defence or aviation industry
Experience designing and architecting integrations within ERP/EAM/SEM solutions
Experience working in a scrum/agile software development environment
Knowledge of Web applications security architecture, for example: single sign-on, Security Assertion Markup Language (SAML), Active Directory (AD) Federation Services (FS), and claims-based authentication
Knowledge of Application Lifecycle Management (ALM) tools (such as Jira, TFS, etc.)
Regulatory Compliance Requirements:
• Ability to obtain a NATO Secret security clearance
• Ability to meet the eligibility requirements outlined in the Canadian Controlled Goods Registration Program (including ITAR-controlled articles)
Special Position Requirements
• Hybrid position. Full time, standard business hours.
• Possibility of occasional travel to customer site for technical support / integration activities.
• Possibility of occasional travel within Canada for planning events.
