Job Summary: Reporting to the Process Engineer, the Junior Process Improvement Engineer Co-op will be responsible for supporting the process improvement team in identifying opportunities for efficiency gains and cost savings within the organization.The Junior Process Improvement Engineer Co-op will work closely with senior engineers and department heads to implement process improvements that drive business growth.
Salary: $20.00/hour
Location(s): The ideal candidate will be able to work onsite and be able to commute to both of our manufacturing plants with their own car and a valid driver’s license: 335 Steelcase Road East (L3R 1G3) and 61 McPherson Street (L3R 3L3). Both locations are five minutes apart from each other by car!
Term: Fall 2024 to Winter 2025 – 8 months – September 2024 to April 2025
Key Responsibilities:
Analyze current processes and procedures to identify opportunities for improvement.
Assist in the development of process improvement plans and recommendations.
Collect data and perform statistical analysis to evaluate process performance.
Design and implement experiments to test new processes or process improvements.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and implement process changes.
Develop process documentation, including process flowcharts, standard operating procedures, and work instructions.
Assist in the design and implementation of 5S, Workflow and Standard Operating procedures.
Collaborate with departments and Management to assist in the identification and execution of LSS and VA/VE projects, in order to deliver Process Improvement and Cost Reduction.
Under direction of the President, Production Supervisors, and Process Engineer Team, conduct applicable time studies.
Identify wastes and implement process improvements for measurable cost savings.
Report and track metrics and performance monitoring systems to quantify and provide accountability for all lean activities.
Contribute to the culture of Continuous Improvement.
Assist in the development and implementation of Environmental/Health & Safety procedures in liaison with the appropriate Federal/Provincial safety/environmental agency and industry organizations.
Key Experience & Qualifications:
Currently enrolled in a Diploma, Bachelor’s, or Master’s degree program in Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret complex data.
Proficiency in statistical analysis tools and software such as Minitab, JMP, or SAS.
Familiarity with process improvement methodologies such as Six Sigma, Lean, or Kaizen.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Willingness to learn and take on new challenges.
