Senior Underground Mine Engineer Full Time

Golder has a new opportunity for an Senior Underground Mine Engineer to join our Mining Engineering and Geology team on a full-time basis based in Vancouver.

An overview of your role will include:

• Demonstrate a “Safety First” focus and act as a role model for junior staff;
• Conduct a full range of mine engineering functions;
• Perform modeling, design and engineering analyses duties, including interactive mine design and sequencing, utilizing various mine modeling software packages. This will require working on projects as the technical lead;
• Contribute to operating and capital cost estimations (developing first-principles cost models, cost benchmarking, conceptual cost estimating).
• Conduct mining equipment selection and productivity calculations.
• Direct or conduct ventilation design (knowledge of VentSim or equivalent software is an asset).
• Apply Golder’s Project Management standards to manage all aspects of projects;
• Work collaboratively with engineers and technical staff to apply the skills and procedures needed to effectively deliver engineering and consulting assignments;
• Maintain a balance of at least 75% chargeable hours;
• Work as a mentor to junior staff;
• Present a ‘Client First’ focus in all activities;
• Learn to identify, develop, and follow through on new business opportunities;
• Contribute to proposal preparation and project budgeting;
• Continually apply a high standard of ethical behaviour to promote and support the Core Values and Culture of Golder.

You will have a background in:

• A Bachelor Degree in Mine Engineering;
• Be registered, or have the ability to register, as a Professional Engineer in Canada;
• A minimum of 7-10 years relevant experience with an emphasis on underground mine planning, design and scheduling. Oil sands, mine operations, and open pit mine engineering experiences are considered assets;
• Appropriate capability and experience in utilizing mine planning, design and scheduling software packages such as Deswick, Datamine MineScape, Geovia GEMS (Surpac, Gemcom), MineRP Planner (Mine 2-4D), Vulcan, MineSight 3D and EPS;
• The ability to lead and contribute to mine design and layout projects for a variety of underground mining methods;
• Experience as a consulting engineer or in a technical services role within a mining company;
• Experience contributing to technical reports including appropriate technical writing skills;
• Awareness of disclosure reporting standards for Canada (NI 43-101) as a minimum. Other jurisdictions such as USA (S-K 1300), Australia (JORC), South Africa (SAMREC) will be considered an advantage;
• Fluency in English with fluency in other languages (e.g. French, Spanish, Portuguese) considered an asset;
• Demonstrate excellent communication skills including report writing and presentation skills;
• The ability to take a leadership role in growing our mining engineering teams and services;
• The ability to travel internationally and to remote project locations.
